The Government of Pakistan has directed shipping companies and their local agents to stop imposing war risk and emergency conflict surcharges on cargo that had already departed or entered transit before February 28.
Officials said traders had raised complaints that several shipping lines were collecting additional war-related charges on shipments that had already sailed before the escalation of regional tensions. Business groups described the move as commercially unfair and an unnecessary financial burden on importers and exporters.
Customs authorities in Pakistan warned that retroactive fees on earlier shipments are unjustified and must stop immediately. Traders have also been asked to submit evidence if such charges were demanded so action can be taken against companies violating the directive.
