CIHC Pak Power Company (Pvt.) Limited, led by Chairman Zhao Bo, has expressed readiness to explore sustainable alternatives for the 300MW Gwadar power project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The company seeks support from Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal to secure an extension of the project’s Financial Closing Date, reaffirming its commitment to meeting Gwadar’s energy needs.
The Chinese firm is evaluating options such as solar power in case the coal-fired project faces commercial viability challenges. Despite complying with all requirements from the Private Power and Infrastructure Board, including extending its performance guarantee and paying fees, the formal extension letter is pending, prompting a request for government facilitation.
This initiative reflects China and Pakistan’s ongoing collaboration under CPEC to provide sustainable and reliable energy solutions. CIHC Pak Power Company has pledged full support to authorities in exploring integrated power solutions, highlighting the region’s strategic importance and long-term development under the corridor framework.
