China’s shipbuilding sector continued to dominate globally in 2025, maintaining the largest market share for the 16th consecutive year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reported.
The country’s shipbuilding output rose 11.4% year-on-year to 53.69 million deadweight tonnes (DWT), representing 56.1% of the world total. New orders reached 107.82 million DWT, holding 69% of the global market.
By the end of December 2025, China’s shipyards had 274.42 million DWT in holding orders, up 31.5% from the previous year, accounting for 66.8% of worldwide orders, reinforcing its leading position in the global shipbuilding industry.
