Chinese-backed energy projects in Pakistan have emerged as top performers in HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment), according to NEPRA’s HSE Performance Report for fiscal year 2024–25. The assessment evaluated 149 electricity generation, transmission, and distribution companies against 20 safety and environmental criteria.
The Chashma Nuclear Power Station and Karachi Nuclear Plants K-2 and K-3, developed with Chinese partners, secured the top two HSE rankings. Several other CPEC-linked coal, wind, and transmission projects also received “Outstanding” HSE ratings, reflecting stronger operational discipline and safety culture.
NEPRA emphasized the importance of leadership accountability and continuous risk management in the high-risk power sector. The annual HSE evaluation aims to benchmark performance, encourage continuous improvement, and support the modernization and reliability of Pakistan’s electricity system.
