Pakistan and the Netherlands held high-level discussions on human rights, with Ambassador Robert-Jan Siegert meeting Federal Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar in Islamabad. The dialogue focused on advancing equality, inclusion, and citizens’ welfare across Pakistan. Both sides emphasized ongoing collaboration and shared commitments to protect fundamental rights.
The Ambassador praised Pakistan’s initiatives to uphold constitutional guarantees, including freedom of religion and belief. Minister Tarar highlighted Pakistan’s diverse society, noting the government’s efforts to ensure minority communities enjoy constitutional protection and opportunities for active participation in national development.
Minister Tarar briefed the Ambassador on the National Commission for Minorities Bill, a key step to safeguard minority rights and promote interfaith harmony. The discussions also covered policy reforms, improved access to justice, and implementation of international human rights commitments under Pakistan’s National Action Plan on Human Rights.
Both officials discussed strengthening independent bodies such as the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), and the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC). Cooperation on protecting vulnerable groups like women, children, senior citizens, transgender persons, and persons with disabilities was also reaffirmed.
