Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has approved 16 new development projects worth Rs. 32 billion for Lahore’s Walled City. These initiatives aim to enhance drainage systems, restore the historic city wall, create a circular garden, and improve areas like Neela Gumband.
During a meeting reviewing Annual Development Programme progress, Rafique emphasized integrating the Lahore Historical Heritage Protection and Development Project (LHAR) into ongoing plans. Officials briefed him on the status of restoration and infrastructure initiatives.
The development plan includes underground parking facilities and arcades near Shalamar Gardens and Nasir Bagh. Rafique instructed the Walled City of Lahore Authority to ensure that all projects protect the city’s cultural and historical heritage while supporting modern infrastructure.
He further highlighted the importance of following timelines set under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP) and Murree Development Programme (MDP). The projects are expected to boost tourism, local business, and overall livability in the historic city area.
