Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, has called for strengthening trade and investment relations with Oman ahead of the 8th Session of the Pakistan–Oman Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) talks set to be held in Islamabad next week.
Chairing an inter-ministerial meeting, Dar emphasised the need to finalise Pakistan’s agenda to enhance bilateral cooperation in key sectors, particularly education, logistics, energy, and employment. He underscored the importance of accelerating the signing of pending MoUs and expanding collaboration to boost exports and investment opportunities.
The development comes as Pakistan seeks to attract foreign investment and stabilise its economy under a $7 billion IMF program. Oman remains an important trade partner for Pakistan, supplying oil and gas while importing rice, textiles, and agricultural goods.
The meeting also reviewed progress across all areas of cooperation. Pakistan’s foreign ministry said both sides were focused on deepening institutional partnerships and strengthening consular and labour ties to facilitate workforce mobility.
Last month, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Oman’s Minister of the Royal Office, General Sultan Mohammed Al Nu’amani, to discuss visa facilitation and bilateral cooperation. Pakistan has been pursuing similar discussions with multiple countries to ease overseas employment processes for its citizens, a crucial step toward increasing remittance inflows.
