China has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan, expressing hope that both nations will continue to resolve disputes through dialogue for lasting regional stability.
Addressing reporters in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said, “Both Pakistan and Afghanistan are traditional, friendly neighbours of China, and the two countries will always remain neighbours to each other.”
He commended the efforts of Türkiye and Qatar, which successfully mediated the Doha negotiations that led to the ceasefire on Sunday. The agreement came after days of intense border clashes, the worst since the Taliban took power in Kabul in 2021.
Guo added that China appreciates the constructive role played by both mediating nations and supports ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at building mutual trust and ensuring stability along the border.
“China hopes from the bottom of its heart that Pakistan and Afghanistan will settle their disputes through dialogue and achieve a lasting ceasefire,” he said. “Peace and stability in the two countries are vital for the region.”
The next round of Pakistan-Afghanistan peace talks is scheduled for October 25 in Istanbul, where both sides are expected to finalise a monitoring mechanism for the ceasefire’s implementation.
Guo further emphasised that China stands ready to play a constructive role in supporting both Islamabad and Kabul in their pursuit of peace and cooperation.
China’s remarks follow earlier statements from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, and Oman, all of which have welcomed the truce as a critical step toward lasting peace between the two neighbours.
