In a major milestone for Pakistan-China cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the first batch of students from the University of Gwadar’s Technical and Vocational Institute has arrived in China for advanced technical education. The students will complete the remaining one and a half years of their three-year diploma program at the Shandong Institute of Commerce and Technology (SICT).
The initiative stems from a 2023 agreement between the University of Gwadar, Gwadar Port Authority, China Overseas Ports Holding Company Limited (COPHCL), and SICT. It aims to enhance technical education, build skilled human resources, and provide Gwadar’s youth with global-level training and career opportunities.
All expenses, including tuition, accommodation, and travel, are fully funded by the University of Gwadar, Gwadar Port Authority, and COPHCL, showcasing a strong commitment to empowering local students through education and skills development.
Former Gwadar Port Authority Chairman Pasand Khan Baledi and University Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Razaq Sabir were instrumental in launching the project, while current Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch and officials from COPHCL and SICT have carried the vision forward. Executive Director of the institute, Professor Dr Manzoor Ahmed, also played a key leadership role in ensuring the program’s success.
This collaboration marks a proud step forward for Gwadar, symbolising educational progress, cross-border cooperation, and a pathway to a more skilled and prosperous future for Balochistan.
