Students from the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute recently toured key development sites in Gwadar, including the port area, greenhouse facility, and the newly operational China-funded desalination plant. The visit was organised by China Overseas Ports Holding Company (Pakistan) Ltd. (COPHC).
At the greenhouse, students were introduced to advanced agricultural practices, such as seedling growth under controlled environments where temperature, humidity, and lighting are optimised for maximum productivity.
The delegation also visited the China-aided desalination plant, which officially began operations on July 23. COPHC highlighted that the facility is currently supplying 200 tons of clean water daily to Gwadar’s urban population, positively impacting nearly 40,000 residents.
Utilizing advanced reverse osmosis (RO) membrane technology, the plant is designed to be both energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable. Initial environmental and hydrological assessments confirmed that the project has no harmful effects on the marine ecosystem. The plant’s full capacity is set at 5,000 tons per day, which is expected to meet residential water needs and eventually support local industry.
Since its inception in May 2023, the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute has enrolled six batches, totaling 483 students. The institute offers hands-on training in areas such as port operations, computer science, e-commerce, finance, accounting, and mobile phone repair, aiming to equip youth with skills aligned with Gwadar’s growing economic landscape.
