China and Singapore celebrated the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic ties on Friday, with leaders from both nations exchanging congratulatory messages and pledging to further strengthen their partnership.
Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted that over the past three and a half decades, China and Singapore have nurtured a relationship built on mutual trust, respect, and win-win cooperation. He said their collaboration has expanded across multiple fields, delivering tangible benefits to both peoples and advancing modernisation efforts in parallel. Xi emphasised that China is ready to use the anniversary as a stepping stone to deepen political trust, promote high-level cooperation, and safeguard multilateral trade while working toward regional stability and prosperity.
Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam underscored that bilateral ties were elevated in 2023 to an “all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership,” reflecting forward-looking collaboration. He noted that cooperation is expanding into new areas while cultural and people-to-people ties continue to grow stronger.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong also exchanged messages, reiterating their shared vision for aligning development strategies, safeguarding free trade, and furthering regional stability. Wong stressed Singapore’s intent to keep strengthening cooperation in multiple sectors, building on the trust and close coordination that have defined the relationship for decades.
The milestone reflects not just 35 years of diplomatic engagement but also a future-oriented commitment to deepening strategic, economic, and cultural cooperation for the benefit of both nations and the wider region.
