China has strongly condemned Israel’s recent airstrike on Doha, the capital of Qatar, describing it as a grave violation of territorial sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter. Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the UN, voiced Beijing’s firm opposition at an emergency UN Security Council meeting, calling the strike a deliberate act of sabotage against peace efforts.
The envoy highlighted that only two days before the attack, the United States had proposed a new ceasefire plan, with Israel reportedly agreeing. However, while Hamas representatives engaged in talks on September 9, Israel launched its assault, which Fu labelled “dishonest and irresponsible behaviour” aimed at undermining negotiations.
Expressing concern over rising regional tensions, Fu stressed that the imbalance created by certain external powers has contributed to the crisis. He urged major players to act fairly and responsibly by supporting peace and de-escalation rather than fueling conflict.
China reiterated its stance that military solutions cannot resolve the issue, emphasising that an immediate ceasefire is the only viable path to save lives and revive dialogue. Fu demanded that Israel halt all military operations in Gaza, meet its humanitarian obligations as an occupying power, and facilitate relief efforts led by the UN and other agencies.
