At China’s V-Day military parade on Wednesday, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, several carrier-borne fighter jets were showcased, including the J-15DH, J-15DT, J-15T, and the J-35, which made its official debut.
Fifth-Generation Era
Defence analysts say the induction of the J-35 marks the entry of China’s carrier-based aviation into the fifth-generation era, significantly upgrading the Chinese Navy’s ability to strike both land and sea targets.
Designed with an “air-sea twin configuration” and multiple variant capabilities, the J-35 can be deployed in large numbers and is optimised for stealth, collaborative battlefield operations, and rapid modernisation to meet evolving military needs.
Stealth Advantage
Experts highlighted that stealth is now a key focus in global carrier-based aviation, giving jets like the J-35 a decisive advantage over non-stealth aircraft. Observers noted the clean design of the J-35, indicating advanced stealth features that rank it among the world’s top fifth-generation fighters.
Complementary Aircraft
The parade also displayed new-generation carrier-based early warning and electronic warfare aircraft, which, when combined with the J-35, will enhance the overall operational effectiveness of China’s aircraft carriers.
Particularly, the aircraft carrier Fujian, equipped with electromagnetic catapults and advanced arresting systems, is expected to become one of the most capable carriers globally with these new weapons and technologies.
