The 10th Round of Pakistan-China Bilateral Consultations on Arms Control, Non-Proliferation, and Disarmament was held in Beijing, where both sides engaged in an extensive exchange of views on global and regional peace, security, and strategic stability.
The meeting was co-chaired by Ambassador Tahir Andrabi, Additional Secretary of the Arms Control, Disarmament and International Security Division at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sun Xiaobo, Director General of the Department of Arms Control at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dialogue on Peace, Security, and Strategic Stability
Discussions covered a wide range of global disarmament and non-proliferation issues, including the UN General Assembly First Committee, the Conference on Disarmament, and key treaties such as the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) and the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
Both delegations also reviewed the security situation in South Asia, underlining the challenges to peace and stability in the region. The implications of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence for global security were also addressed.
Focus on Peaceful Cooperation
The consultations highlighted cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear technology and outer space. Ambassador Andrabi also took part in an interactive roundtable hosted by the China Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA), attended by leading diplomats, practitioners, academics, and policy experts.
