The Shenzhou-20 crew aboard China’s orbiting space station completed their mission’s third extravehicular activity (EVA) on Friday, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) confirmed.
Commander Chen Dong, along with astronauts Chen Zhongrui and Wang Jie, worked for nearly six and a half hours before concluding all assigned tasks at 10:47 p.m. Beijing Time. Their operations were supported by the station’s robotic arm and ground-based control teams.
Chen Dong and Wang Jie carried out key tasks, including the installation of debris protection devices, auxiliary extravehicular facilities, and inspections of external equipment. With this mission, Chen Dong has now completed six EVAs, making him the Chinese astronaut with the highest number of spacewalks to date.
The Shenzhou-20 crew has reached the halfway point of their spaceflight journey, having already conducted several science experiments. In the next phase, the astronauts will focus on research and technology testing in areas such as space life sciences, microgravity physics, space materials, aerospace medicine, and advanced space technologies, according to the CMSA.
