China has urged the United States to abandon zero-sum mindsets and withdraw a range of unjust economic and trade restrictions targeting China, according to a statement by the Ministry of Commerce on Friday.
The ministry acknowledged that the U.S. recently approved Nvidia’s H20 chip sales to China, which it described as a proactive step.
The spokesperson said both countries have remained in close contact following the London economic and trade dialogue, working to implement the agreed framework and confirming specific follow-up measures.
China has lawfully approved eligible export license applications for controlled items, and in return, the U.S. removed some restrictions against China in early July, as agreed in the earlier discussions.
The spokesperson emphasized that mutual benefit is the only viable approach for U.S.-China relations, while attempts at suppression and containment will ultimately fail.
In May, the U.S. introduced stricter export controls on Huawei’s Ascend chips, citing unsubstantiated claims. China criticized the move as an abuse of administrative authority that distorts fair competition and violates the legitimate rights of Chinese firms.
China has consistently voiced its opposition to such actions and expects the U.S. to engage in equal dialogue, correct its policy missteps, and create an environment conducive to cooperative business relations, which would help stabilize global semiconductor supply chains.
During a Thursday meeting, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao assured Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang that China remains committed to welcoming foreign investment and will continue to open up its market.
Wang highlighted China’s massive consumer base, broad application scenarios, and vibrant innovation ecosystem, expressing hope that global companies like Nvidia will deliver quality and trustworthy services to Chinese clients.
Huang acknowledged the appeal of China’s market and conveyed Nvidia’s readiness to expand cooperation with Chinese partners, especially in artificial intelligence.
