Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting in Beijing on Tuesday with the foreign ministers and heads of standing bodies of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), who were visiting China for the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting.
President Xi highlighted that over the past 24 years, the SCO has consistently upheld the “Shanghai Spirit,” evolving into a mature and dynamic regional organization with strong vitality.
He emphasized that China places high importance on the SCO within its neighborhood diplomacy and remains committed to strengthening the organization, safeguarding regional peace, and fostering prosperity among member states while building a shared future.
Xi noted that since assuming the rotating presidency in July last year, China has actively promoted cooperation and organized various initiatives, with member countries working together to advance the organization’s development.
Looking ahead to the upcoming SCO Summit in Tianjin, Xi expressed his eagerness to meet with fellow leaders to chart the future course of the organization.
He stressed that amid global uncertainties and shifting dynamics, the SCO must maintain focus, confidence, and efficiency, and play a more active role in promoting global stability and positive momentum.
