China is prepared to use the Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States as a key opportunity to ensure the success of the upcoming Tianjin summit, a spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
Spokesperson Lin Jian noted that China currently holds the rotating presidency of the SCO for the 2024–2025 term, with the summit scheduled to be held in Tianjin this autumn. He explained that the foreign ministers’ meeting is an essential step in laying the political groundwork for the summit.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will chair the meeting, where participating foreign ministers will exchange views on SCO cooperation across various sectors, discuss major international and regional issues, and endorse several resolutions and official documents.
Lin emphasized that China hopes to use this meeting to deepen consensus, introduce new cooperative measures, and work closely with member states to guarantee the summit’s success while promoting the SCO’s transition into a new phase of high-quality development
