Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Beijing on Monday.
Han highlighted that the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan last October marked a new beginning for China-India relations. He emphasized that as major developing nations and key members of the Global South, both countries should see each other as partners working toward mutual success.
He urged both sides to implement the consensus reached by their leaders, uphold high-level strategic guidance, deepen practical cooperation, respect each other’s core concerns, and work toward stable, healthy, and long-term development of bilateral ties.
Jaishankar noted that since the Modi-Xi meeting in Kazan, relations between India and China have improved steadily. He affirmed India’s commitment to following the leaders’ consensus to sustain momentum in bilateral engagement, boost mutually beneficial cooperation, and enhance collaboration within multilateral forums.
Jaishankar also expressed India’s support for China in hosting the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit as the rotating chair.
