China-Pakistan-Bangladesh deepen trilateral cooperation as an important meeting was held in Kunming, China.
On June 19, 2025, the China-Pakistan-Bangladesh Trilateral Vice Foreign Minister/Foreign Secretary meeting took place in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China. The meeting was attended by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, Bangladeshi Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique, and Pakistani Additional Secretary (Asia Pacific) Imran Ahmed Siddiqui. Pakistani Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch joined the first segment of the meeting via video link.
During the meeting, Sun Weidong reaffirmed China’s commitment to fostering a shared future with its neighbors. He described Bangladesh and Pakistan as close neighbors, trusted friends, and key partners in Belt and Road cooperation. As leading nations in the Global South, all three countries share aspirations for national rejuvenation and modernization and require a peaceful regional environment. He emphasized that their trilateral collaboration supports mutual interests and contributes to peace, stability, and development in the region.
The representatives held in-depth discussions on advancing trilateral cooperation. They agreed to move forward based on principles of neighborliness, equality, mutual trust, openness, inclusivity, shared development, and mutual benefit. Their cooperation will emphasize economic growth and improved living standards. The three parties agreed to identify and launch joint projects in sectors such as industry, trade, maritime affairs, water management, climate resilience, agriculture, human capital development, education, health, culture, youth exchange, and think tank cooperation. A working group will be established to follow up on the implementation of these initiatives. They clarified that this trilateral framework promotes genuine multilateralism and inclusive regionalism and is not aimed against any third party.
While in Kunming, Sun Weidong also met with Haji Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan’s interim government, and held separate bilateral talks with Ruhul Alam Siddique and Imran Ahmed Siddiqui.
