China, Tajikistan to expand trade and investment as Chinese President Xi held a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for expanding bilateral trade and investment between China and Tajikistan during a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on the sidelines of the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana.
Xi recalled his visit to Tajikistan last year, where both leaders announced a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership for a new era and mapped out broad plans for future cooperation. He urged both sides to swiftly implement those agreements and produce tangible outcomes.
Xi reiterated China’s firm support for Tajikistan’s independence, sovereignty, and security, highlighting that China remains a reliable neighbor and partner. He encouraged the use of the foreign ministers’ strategic dialogue mechanism to strengthen coordination in multiple areas.
He stressed the importance of increasing trade and investment, accelerating transport infrastructure development, and enhancing regional connectivity between the two countries.
Xi also highlighted the cultural and educational cooperation platforms such as Confucius Institutes, the Luban Workshop, and the Center for Traditional Medicine. He emphasized the successful organization of the upcoming “Chinese Culture Day” in Tajikistan.
Law enforcement and security collaboration should be deepened, Xi said, with joint efforts to combat terrorism, separatism, and extremism. He called for strengthened cooperation on multilateral platforms to defend multilateralism and the global economic order.
Xi also expressed support for Tajikistan’s greater involvement in global climate governance and affirmed China’s backing for its regional and international contributions.
President Rahmon, in turn, praised China’s achievements under President Xi’s leadership, both domestically and on the international stage. He said Xi’s visit last year significantly elevated bilateral ties and opened new avenues for strategic cooperation.
Rahmon affirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to implementing the outcomes of the visit, noting flourishing collaboration in various fields. He expressed readiness to maintain high-level exchanges and deepen strategic communication with China.
He stated that Tajikistan is eager to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, and investment, while also expanding into emerging sectors like green energy and artificial intelligence.
Rahmon voiced support for enhancing people-to-people exchanges, ensuring the success of “Chinese Culture Day,” and boosting collaboration in security and law enforcement.
He called for stronger coordination in multilateral forums such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the China-Central Asia mechanism to enhance their role in promoting regional peace and development.
