China is set to host the Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange from June 10 to 12 in Chengdu, located in Sichuan Province. Officials announced at a press conference that representatives from over 100 countries and international bodies are expected to participate.
The primary goal of the conference is to enhance global collaboration in the fields of science and innovation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Over the course of three days, attendees will engage in events covering a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence, traditional Chinese medicine, poverty alleviation through technology, international large-scale scientific projects, and science-policy integration among BRI countries.
Vice Minister of Science and Technology Chen Jiachang emphasized that scientific and technological cooperation is a key aspect of the BRI, reaffirming China’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and promoting an open, innovative global scientific environment.
The Ministry of Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Chinese Academy of Engineering, organizers of the event, announced that the conference will include the signing of bilateral agreements, the rollout of new collaborative science programs under the BRI, and the launch of international megascience projects led by Chinese researchers.
Chen further noted that the aim is to ensure science and innovation contribute meaningfully to economic and social development in BRI countries, ultimately working toward a more inclusive and vibrant global science community.
