China will organize a range of events from May 17 to 19 in celebration of International Museum Day, with the Grand Canal Museum in Beijing designated as the main venue, according to an announcement by the country’s cultural heritage department on Monday.
Deputy head of the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA), Luo Wenli, shared that the central event will include major announcements such as the list of China’s most innovative museums in 2025 and the nation’s top ten exhibitions.
On May 18, which marks International Museum Day, China will launch a new initiative focused on international exhibitions, alongside a variety of key exhibitions, immersive cultural activities, and youth forums.
This year’s theme emphasizes the future of museums in a rapidly evolving world, highlighting recent progress in China’s museum development and encouraging broader public participation.
China became a member of the International Council of Museums in 1983 and has been commemorating International Museum Day every year since.
