Foreign leaders and heads of international organizations have extended their condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping or conveyed sympathies through other means following the devastating earthquake in Dingri County, Xigaze, Xizang Autonomous Region, on Tuesday.
Notable figures expressing condolences include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Vietnamese leaders To Lam and Luong Cuong, Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel. Other leaders such as Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon also sent their sympathies. Leaders from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Pakistan, Maldives, Nepal, Brunei, Bhutan, and Saudi Arabia joined in offering their condolences.
Middle Eastern figures included Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, and Yemeni Chairman Rashad Al Alimi. African leaders such as Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadera, and Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan also expressed their sympathies. Leaders from Cape Verde, Zambia, France, Spain, Finland, Italy, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina added their voices.
From the Americas, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele and Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega offered support, alongside Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and South Korea’s Acting President Choi Sang-mok. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev also conveyed condolences.
The leaders praised the Chinese government for its swift and effective response to the disaster, expressing confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the affected regions would recover and rebuild successfully.
