Chinese Language Center opens in South Sudan

Chinese Language Center opens in South Sudan as the Chinese Embassy expressed its commitment to foster exchange.

A Chinese language and culture center was inaugurated on Thursday at the University of Juba, South Sudan’s leading institution of higher education.

Robert Mayom Deng, the university’s vice chancellor, highlighted the center’s features, including a solar-powered e-classroom equipped with 40 desks and chairs, an interactive flat panel, air conditioning, and solar lighting. He emphasized its comfort and uniqueness, urging students to take full advantage of the facility, which is unparalleled in the country’s universities.

During the handover ceremony in Juba, Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Ma Qiang underscored the importance of education as a cornerstone of collaboration between the two nations. He noted the strong diplomatic ties formed over the past 13 years, rooted in shared historical experiences and developmental goals.

Ambassador Ma highlighted China’s contributions to South Sudan’s education sector, including building schools, training over 5,000 professionals, and offering numerous scholarships for South Sudanese students to study in China. He also pointed to the second phase of the China-Aided Technical Cooperation Project in Education, launched in December 2021, which provided millions of textbooks in core subjects such as English, mathematics, and science.

Ma further stated that the Chinese Embassy is committed to fostering exchanges with the University of Juba, including providing opportunities for management training in China to enhance the university’s capacity. Since 2021, the embassy has also sponsored the “Chinese Ambassador Award” four times, supporting outstanding students and teachers, particularly those facing financial difficulties.
