The U.S. Trade Representative’s Office announced last Wednesday that tariffs under Section 301 would be raised on imports from China, including tungsten products, wafers, and polysilicon, with the changes set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
A spokesperson for the MOC emphasized that China’s stance against the U.S.’s unilateral additional tariffs on Chinese goods remains consistent. The country has repeatedly filed formal objections with the U.S. regarding the Section 301 tariffs.
The spokesperson pointed out that the World Trade Organization (WTO) has deemed the Section 301 tariffs on Chinese goods to be a violation of its rules. Despite this, the U.S. has chosen to further escalate the situation by increasing tariffs under this section.
According to the MOC, the U.S. tariff measures will not address its trade deficit or industrial competitiveness issues. Instead, they will exacerbate inflation in the U.S., harm American consumers, disrupt the global trade and economic order, and threaten the stability of international industrial and supply chains.
The spokesperson called on the U.S. to immediately correct its actions and revoke the additional tariffs on Chinese goods. They added that China is prepared to take strong measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
