China, Indonesia launch first joint HADR Exercise which will be held in Indonesia with Chinese and Indonesian forces participating.
A joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) exercise will take place in Indonesia from late November to early December, involving the Chinese and Indonesian militaries, as announced by a Chinese military spokesperson on Thursday.
Wu Qian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, confirmed that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Southern Theater Command will participate in the Peace Garuda-2024 joint HADR exercise, marking the first collaboration of its kind between the two nations.
The exercise will involve army, naval, and air force units from both sides, conducting drills on a range of operations including search and detection, medical treatment, personnel evacuation and settlement, nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) protection, as well as parachute delivery. Cultural and sports activities will also be included.
Wu mentioned that the Chinese and Indonesian militaries have enjoyed strong high-level exchanges in recent years, leading to significant cooperation in various areas.
With the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia approaching next year, Wu stated that China is eager to work with Indonesia to further strengthen military exchanges and enhance the defense dialogue mechanism.
