Vice Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Sun Weidong, currently visiting Islamabad, met with General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Monday. The meeting focused on mutual interests and strategies to further strengthen bilateral defense cooperation between Pakistan and China, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.
During the discussions, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong reiterated the enduring nature of the strategic partnership between the two countries, emphasizing their status as all-weather strategic partners. He commended Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and stability, expressing satisfaction with the security arrangements for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
COAS General Syed Asim Munir expressed gratitude for the positive remarks from the Chinese diplomat, emphasizing that the relationship between Pakistan and China is grounded in a shared understanding of the importance of regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
Last week, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong inaugurated the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Corner at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighting the multifaceted cooperation between the two nations. Additionally, he met with Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza to discuss matters related to bilateral security, defense cooperation, and the regional and international security environment.
