Xi Jinping Urges Unity for a Beautiful Xinjiang
Chinese President Xi Jinping urges unity, modernisation for Xinjiang development, calling for collective efforts to build a “beautiful Xinjiang” as part of China’s modernisation drive. During his visit to Urumqi for the 70th anniversary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Xi met representatives from ethnic groups, officials, religious leaders, security personnel, and military officers. Cotton production, driven by AI-based mechanisation, has secured Xinjiang’s position as China’s top producer for over three decades. Tourism is now a key driver of Xinjiang’s development. In the first quarter of 2025, the region received 44.63 million visitors, marking a significant year-on-year rise. Festivals, expos, and cultural events are helping Xinjiang showcase both its heritage and modern lifestyle, making the region attractive for global tourists.
