Global Challenges and the UN’s 80th Anniversary
At the 80th UN General Assembly session in New York, Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for solidarity, fairness, and collective action. Marking the 80th anniversaries of both the UN’s founding and the victory over fascism, he urged world leaders to draw lessons from history to prevent division, conflict, and injustice.
Peace, Development, and Cooperation as Priorities
Li emphasised that peace and development remain humanity’s strongest aspirations, noting that unilateralism and Cold War mentality are threatening global stability. He called on nations to prioritise dialogue, mutual trust, and multilateralism instead of confrontation.
China’s Role in Global Governance
Highlighting China’s role as a founding UN member, Li reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to multilateralism and global problem-solving. He pointed to President Xi Jinping’s four initiatives, the Global Development, Security, Civilisation, and Governance Initiatives, as pathways for addressing international crises and building a more equitable order.
Tackling Emerging Challenges
Addressing climate change, new technologies, and global economic sluggishness, Li urged international cooperation in green development, AI governance, and inclusive globalisation. He reaffirmed China’s role as a key driver of global growth and sustainable innovation, adding that China will continue to support developing countries through South-South cooperation and UN-led initiatives.
Shared Future for Humanity
Quoting a Chinese proverb, Li said humanity must “never forget why we started” and remain committed to peace, fairness, and justice. He stressed that while past victories cannot be relived, nations can unite to shape a better future.
