SK Hydro Company celebrated the first anniversary of the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, a flagship energy initiative under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with a Media Open Day at CEEC Pakistan’s newly established regional office.
Executives from SK Hydro and CEEC welcomed representatives of more than ten leading Pakistani media outlets, who toured the Corporate Culture Exhibition Hall and the upcoming “Smart Hydropower” centralised control room.
Since beginning commercial operations on September 14, 2024, the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station has produced over 2.7 billion kWh of clean electricity. This contribution has eased Pakistan’s energy shortfall, cut reliance on imported fuels, and advanced the government’s renewable energy targets.
The project is also recognised for its socio-economic impact. At peak construction, it created over 6,000 jobs, raised household incomes, and introduced multiple community-focused programs. These include planting 150,000 trees, establishing a 5,000-square-meter trout hatchery to preserve local ecology, launching the Moving Forward with Dreams education initiative, and upgrading infrastructure through the renovation of the N15 highway and development of the Khan Area Government Service Centre.
Media representatives praised the project for its engineering quality, operational efficiency, and intelligent management systems, calling it a model of CPEC cooperation.
Looking ahead, SK Hydro reaffirmed its commitment to clean, reliable power and community development. As CPEC enters its second phase, the project stands as a landmark of mutual benefit, connectivity, and shared prosperity for Pakistan and China.
