Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is leading Pakistan’s delegation at the high-level segment of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, which begins this week. Themed “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights,” the gathering marks the UN’s 80th anniversary.
During his address to the General Assembly, the prime minister will draw global attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reaffirm Pakistan’s demand for the right to self-determination in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He is also expected to outline Pakistan’s perspective on key challenges, including climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, sustainable development, and regional security.
On the sidelines, Shehbaz Sharif will attend a series of high-level meetings, including those of the UN Security Council, the Global Development Initiative, and a special session on climate action. He will also participate in the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.
Bilateral meetings with world leaders and senior UN officials are also planned, where Sharif will emphasise Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, its active role as a member of the UN Security Council, and its resolve to work with member states for peace, prosperity, and global stability.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, along with senior officials, is accompanying the prime minister for the week-long engagements.
