The 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Forum on People-to-People Friendship and the Forum on Friendship Cities officially opened on Friday in Shenyang, the capital of northeast China’s Liaoning Province.
Shen Yueyue, vice chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and chairperson of the SCO’s Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Commission, delivered the keynote address at the event.
In her speech, Shen noted that China, currently holding the rotating SCO chair, is organizing the forums to further enhance friendly ties and cooperation among SCO member states.
She emphasized the importance of unity, the continuation of the “Shanghai Spirit,” and preserving a shared sense of destiny and lasting friendship among the peoples of the region.
Shen also highlighted the need to promote mutual benefits and win-win outcomes, advocating for openness, inclusiveness, and deepened cultural and social exchanges.
She called for building a close-knit network of friendship and cooperation across SCO countries to advance the vision of a more integrated SCO community with a shared future.
The forums, held under the theme “Deepening People-to-People Friendship, Advancing Sustainable Development,” concluded with two official documents: the Consensus on Actions for Sustainable Development of People-to-People Exchanges among SCO Countries and the 2025 SCO Forum Shenyang Initiative.
