The recently concluded sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai has set a historic milestone by securing tentative trade agreements totaling $78.41 billion, marking a substantial 6.7 percent increase compared to the previous year. Sun Chenghai, the deputy director of the CIIE Bureau, shared these impressive figures during a press briefing, underscoring the growing global influence of the expo.
Representatives from 154 countries, regions, and international organizations participated in the annual trade fair, presenting a diverse array of 442 new products, technologies, and services, according to Sun. Notably, the national pavilions played a crucial role in showcasing each participating country’s technological advancements, robust industries, and investment environments.
The Country Exhibition zone welcomed eleven debutant countries, including Bahrain, the Central African Republic, Dominica, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Honduras, Mali, Oman, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Zimbabwe. The Business Exhibition zone saw a remarkable turnout, hosting 289 Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders, setting a new attendance record.
The Innovation Incubation zone, known for fostering creativity, attracted over 300 projects from 39 countries, surpassing the combined total of the previous two editions. With the sixth CIIE concluded successfully, anticipation is already building for its seventh edition. Preparations are well underway, with four signing ceremonies completed and nearly 200 companies committed to participating, contributing to an exhibition area exceeding 100,000 square meters.
