President Xi Jinping has called for “all-out efforts” to safeguard lives and property as China grapples with severe floods and geological disasters triggered by ongoing torrential rains. The directive, reported by Xinhua, comes amid widespread destruction and casualties across Beijing, Hebei, Jilin, Shandong, and Inner Mongolia.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the People’s Armed Police Force (PAPF), and local militia units were swiftly deployed to lead rescue operations, transport emergency supplies, evacuate stranded residents, and reinforce critical embankments.
PLA and PAPF Lead Emergency Relief Operations
In Beijing’s Yanqing district, a PAPF unit undertook a two-hour trek to reach Taotiaogou village, isolated after mountain torrents destroyed access roads. Eighteen residents were safely evacuated. Meanwhile, machinery was deployed to clear landslide debris on Sibao Road and reinforce embankments along the Chaohe River near Miyun Reservoir.
Across Beijing, over 1,800 officers were mobilised for large-scale rescue and relief missions, including supply delivery, evacuation, and emergency shelter setup. Over 4,000 residents were relocated, with more than 30,000 sandbags filled and 2,000+ emergency supply boxes delivered.
In Hebei province, over 1,700 troops and militia members were mobilised for emergency operations. In Luanping County’s Xigou village, landslides cut off communication, prompting the deployment of 280 troops to restore access and evacuate residents. Militia teams supported relief in Kangbao, Sanhe, and Fuping counties, handling flood discharge and post-disaster cleanup.
Relief Expands to Inner Mongolia
Heavy rains also wreaked havoc in Hohhot, Baotou, and Ordos in Inner Mongolia. A collapsed dike in Duliuba village threatened local communities, prompting urgent reinforcement by PLA Northern Theatre Command Air Force troops and PAPF units. Rescue operations in these regions remain ongoing as military and professional emergency teams race to secure vulnerable areas.
The Chinese military’s rapid, coordinated response reflects a national push to limit damage and protect communities, with President Xi’s directive emphasising the state’s priority on life, safety, and preparedness during natural disasters.
