Pakistan’s stock market has achieved a historic milestone as total investors surpassed the 500,000 mark for the first time. Pakistan Stock Exchange reported that investor accounts reached over 502,000 by late February, highlighting a sharp rise in retail participation in recent years.
More than 227,000 new investors have joined since mid-2022, representing an increase of over 80 percent in just a few years. Recent months have seen particularly strong momentum, with tens of thousands of new accounts opened as interest in equities continues to grow.
Officials say many of the new participants are young investors exploring alternatives to traditional savings. Experts view the milestone as a sign of improving financial inclusion and a broader investor base, which could strengthen Pakistan’s capital markets and support future economic development.
