Pakistan is participating in the 15th Kashgar-Central and South Asia Commodity Fair in Xinjiang, China, as part of efforts to enhance international trade, attract investment, and strengthen economic ties.
The five-day event, which began on Friday in Kashgar and runs until August 19, has drawn more than 1,100 Chinese companies along with 181 enterprises from 40 countries, including Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Ghana. Around 26 overseas business associations are also taking part.
Spanning 40,000 square meters, the exhibition is divided into three main sections: investment cooperation, international trade, and domestic trade. The fair emphasises business matchmaking in priority sectors such as biomedicine, agriculture, cultural tourism, textiles, and cotton industries.
Since its launch in 2005, the Kashgar fair has hosted over 38,000 enterprises from 56 countries, generating cumulative trade deals exceeding 480 billion yuan ($67.25 billion).
Pakistan’s presence comes as the country seeks to stabilise its economy through foreign investment and export growth. Recent initiatives under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), established in 2023, aim to fast-track investment in key sectors like energy, agriculture, mining, livestock, and tourism.
The fair provides Pakistan with a platform to expand market access, build partnerships, and tap into regional supply chains as it strengthens trade and economic cooperation with China, Central Asia, and other partners.
