The government of Pakistan has announced plans to establish the country’s first Pakistan Council of Digital Economy to strengthen the growing digital sector. The council will provide an institutional framework to support digital businesses and accelerate the nation’s digital economy.
The Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) is preparing to form the council, structured like a chamber of commerce. It will serve as a formal platform representing digital companies across various sectors, enabling coordination between private businesses and the government.
The council aims to address common challenges in the sector, provide policy and regulatory guidance, facilitate consultations, and promote investment and innovation. Officials said that around 40 private digital companies have already been consulted to ensure strong private sector participation in shaping the digital economy.
The Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the Pakistan Council of Digital Economy once the initial framework is finalized, marking a significant step toward fostering collaboration and growth in Pakistan’s digital industry.
