Pakistan and the Federated States of Micronesia formally established diplomatic relations on Thursday during a signing ceremony at Pakistan’s Mission to the United Nations.
The joint communiqué was signed by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, and Micronesia’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Jeem S Lippwe. Senior diplomats, including Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative Usman Jadoon, attended the event.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar expressed his delight that the diplomatic ties were being established on Pakistan’s Independence Day, calling it a milestone that would pave the way for cooperation in climate change, capacity building, and human resource development. He noted the commitment of both missions to work closely on global peace and security issues at the UN.
Highlighting the occasion’s significance, he said Pakistan was the 100th country with which Micronesia had formalised diplomatic relations.
Ambassador Lippwe described the agreement as the start of a new chapter in friendship and partnership. He thanked Pakistan for supporting Micronesia in opening UN offices in the country and expressed eagerness to strengthen bilateral engagement. He also extended warm wishes to Pakistan on its Independence Day.
Before the signing, the two ambassadors held a meeting to discuss potential areas of bilateral cooperation and collaboration at the UN.
