Following a series of deadly terrorist attacks across Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari convened an urgent meeting at the Presidency on Tuesday to review the country’s security situation. The meeting brought together top political leaders, including the Senate Chairman, National Assembly Speaker, and federal ministers, to discuss counterterrorism strategies and operational responses.
Earlier on Tuesday, a suicide bomber detonated explosives outside the district and sessions court in Islamabad’s G-11 sector, killing 12 people and injuring 36. Reports also emerged of additional attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including a bombing in Dera Ismail Khan that injured 14 security personnel. These back-to-back incidents heightened concerns over the resurgence of militant groups operating in the country.
During the high-level meeting, the leadership reviewed intelligence assessments, emphasizing that foreign-backed terrorist networks continue to pose a significant threat. Officials reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to taking decisive action against terrorists and their facilitators until all extremist threats are eliminated.
The government stated that these attacks target the youth and educational institutions, aiming to destabilize communities. Security authorities affirmed that coordinated civil and military efforts are being intensified to prevent future incidents and safeguard public safety.
The leaders’ meeting reflects Pakistan’s unified stance against terrorism, with an emphasis on strengthening counterterrorism measures, enhancing intelligence coordination, and ensuring rapid operational responses across affected regions.
