Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has said there is credible evidence linking illegal Afghan nationals in Pakistan to terrorism and serious crimes. In an interview with a German magazine, he stressed that Pakistan, after hosting millions of Afghan refugees for over four decades, has made comprehensive arrangements for their dignified return.
He noted that Pakistan extended deadlines for Afghan repatriation multiple times on humanitarian grounds, but argued the original causes of refuge, foreign interference and civil war, no longer exist. According to him, weapons left behind after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan are being used in attacks inside Pakistan, a matter of concern even for Washington.
The DG ISPR also addressed India’s domestic and external policies, describing rising violence there as a product of extremist government policies. He accused India of sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan, including evidence of serving Indian army officers’ involvement, which has been presented to the international community repeatedly.
On Kashmir, he urged global actors to play a constructive role in resolving the longstanding dispute. He reiterated that Pakistan rejects all non-state armed groups, stating that no one outside the state has the authority to declare jihad.
Highlighting Pakistan’s immense sacrifices in the war on terror, he reminded that the country acted as a frontline state. He also pointed to US recognition of banned outfits like the Majid Brigade as global terrorist organisations.
In response to another query, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif underlined Pakistan’s strong and strategic ties with China. He further revealed that many terrorists killed in Balochistan were included in the list of so-called “missing persons,” challenging narratives often circulated internationally.
