Pakistan has announced a new discovery of oil and gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as part of efforts to reduce dependence on costly fuel imports and strengthen energy security. The find was made at the Baragzai X-01 exploratory well under the Nashpa Exploration License, according to state media reports.
Initial testing indicates production of around 225 barrels of oil per day and 1.01 million standard cubic feet of gas daily. The well was drilled to a depth of more than 5,000 meters, targeting multiple hydrocarbon-bearing formations to assess commercial viability.
Officials say that while the discovery is modest, similar finds across the country could collectively boost domestic energy production and narrow the supply-demand gap. Pakistan continues to rely heavily on imported fuel, making new indigenous resources crucial for long-term economic stability.
