China has completed the world’s first full-process unmanned operation of a container vessel, covering navigation, docking, and cargo handling without human intervention. The smart ship autonomously docked at Qingdao Port, showcasing a major advancement in autonomous maritime transport.
After arrival, an automated vacuum-based mooring system secured the vessel in under 30 seconds, eliminating the need for manual line handling. Fully automated cranes and guided vehicles then carried out loading and unloading operations, coordinated by advanced domestic control systems capable of millisecond-level responses.
The vessel, equipped with an intelligent navigation system, supports manual, remote, and fully autonomous modes. Officials say the achievement demonstrates China’s rapid progress in smart shipping technologies and could reshape global maritime logistics in the coming years.
