Wang Yi Meets PM Shehbaz Ahead of SCO
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, on his official visit to Pakistan, met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir, and senior cabinet members.
Wang reaffirmed that China considers Pakistan an “ironclad friend and all-weather partner”, stressing Beijing’s commitment to elevating bilateral cooperation to new heights.
PM Shehbaz’s Upcoming Visit to Tianjin, Beijing
PM Shehbaz expressed appreciation for China’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and socio-economic development. He said he looked forward to attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, alongside commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Beijing.
The premier will also meet President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and other senior leaders.
Focus on Trade, CPEC, and Agriculture
Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to deepening ties with China in trade, ICT, agriculture, industrialisation, and minerals. He noted that CPEC Phase-II was progressing steadily and would remain central to Pakistan’s socio-economic growth and regional connectivity.
Wang Yi described CPEC as the “cornerstone of Pakistan-China strategic partnership” and stressed cooperation in agriculture, mining, and industry to enhance Pakistan’s resilience.
SCO Summit as a Strategic Platform
Both sides agreed that the SCO provides a critical platform to promote regional peace, stability, and economic integration. Wang said:
“China will continue working jointly with Pakistan to promote regional peace, development, and stability.”
The leaders also discussed plans to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026, highlighting their shared vision of a closer future.
