Pakistan and China have agreed to establish a joint working group on border management and security to enhance cooperation against illegal migration, smuggling, and cross-border crime.
The decision came during a meeting between Mohsin Naqvi and a Chinese delegation led by Qi Jingyang.
Joint Working Group to Improve Border Management
Both sides agreed to accelerate an agreement that will streamline immigration procedures and improve coordination on border management.
Moreover, they pledged to strengthen joint efforts against illegal immigration, arms smuggling, and other cross-border crimes. The cooperation will also focus on institutional capacity building and information sharing.
Pakistan Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan maintains a zero-tolerance policy against illegal immigration, unlawful border crossings, and smuggling.
He added that law enforcement agencies are taking action against all individuals involved in these activities without discrimination.
New Checkpoint at Khunjerab Pass
Naqvi also announced that Pakistan will establish a new Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts checkpoint at Khunjerab Pass.
The new facility aims to strengthen border security and improve monitoring at the main land crossing between Pakistan and China.
China Supports Capacity Building
The Chinese delegation welcomed Pakistan’s efforts to combat illegal border crossings and smuggling.
Qi Jingyang reaffirmed that China will continue supporting the capacity building of Pakistani institutions. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two strategic partners.
Training and Security Cooperation
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong announced that Pakistani police officers will travel to China later this month for professional training.
In addition, Chinese instructors are providing Chinese-language training to personnel of Pakistan’s Special Protection Unit, which is responsible for protecting Chinese nationals and development projects.
