Pakistan Capable of Defending Sovereignty: Zardari
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

President Asif Ali Zardari stated that Pakistan is fully capable of defending its sovereignty and securing maritime interests. He made these remarks during the commissioning of PNS/M Hangor in Sanya.

The ceremony marked the induction of the first Hangor Class submarine into the Pakistan Navy. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf also attended the event.

Historic Milestone in Naval Modernization

President Zardari described the commissioning as a historic milestone. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining a strong and credible defence posture.

Moreover, he highlighted the importance of protecting economic lifelines and maritime security. According to him, a balanced naval force remains essential for national stability.

Advanced Capabilities of Hangor Class Submarines

Admiral Naveed Ashraf stressed the need for modern naval systems in today’s security environment. He pointed out that disruptions at maritime choke points threaten global trade and energy supply.

The Hangor Class submarines feature advanced weapons, modern sensors, and Air-Independent Propulsion technology. As a result, they can operate underwater for extended periods.

In addition, these submarines will strengthen surveillance and combat capabilities in the Arabian Sea and the wider Indian Ocean.

Ensuring Maritime Security and Deterrence

The Naval Chief noted that these submarines will help maintain a stable maritime order. They will also deter aggression and secure vital Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs).

Furthermore, enhanced underwater capabilities will improve Pakistan’s strategic defence posture in the region.

Legacy of Hangor and Historical Significance

Admiral Ashraf recalled the legacy of the original Hangor submarine. In 1971, it became the first submarine since World War II to sink a warship.

This legacy continues with the induction of the new Hangor Class. The addition represents a significant step toward fleet modernization and technological advancement.

Pakistan-China Maritime Cooperation

The commissioning highlights strong defence cooperation between Pakistan and China.

Senior officials from both navies attended the ceremony. Their presence reflected the depth of strategic partnership in the maritime domain.

National Leadership Congratulates Navy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and military leadership congratulated the nation and the Pakistan Navy.

They described the commissioning as a major achievement. It also reinforces Pakistan’s commitment to modern defence capabilities.
