Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Bangladesh’s Home Minister, Lt. Gen. (R) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, during his visit to Dhaka. Upon his arrival at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Minister Naqvi received a warm welcome and was honored with a ceremonial guard of honour by his Bangladeshi counterpart.
The meeting focused on issues of mutual concern and the overall state of Pakistan-Bangladesh bilateral relations. A notable outcome of the talks was a key agreement in principle to allow visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic and official passports from both countries.
Both ministers expressed their commitment to expanding cooperation in internal security and police training. They also explored deeper collaboration on combating drug trafficking, human smuggling, and terrorism. Additionally, they discussed initiating exchange programs between their police training institutions.
Home Minister Jahangir Alam Chowdhury warmly welcomed Minister Naqvi to Dhaka, emphasizing that the visit holds great importance in strengthening bilateral ties. He also expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s offer to train Bangladeshi police personnel.
The two sides agreed to form a joint committee to bolster Pakistan-Bangladesh cooperation. Pakistan’s Federal Secretary for Interior, Khurram Agha, will lead the committee on behalf of Islamabad.
It was also announced that a senior-level delegation from Bangladesh will soon visit Pakistan’s National Police Academy in Islamabad to further enhance collaboration.
The meeting was attended by several top officials, including Bangladesh’s State Minister for Home Affairs Khuda Bakhsh, Home Secretary Nasim Al-Ghani, Additional Secretary for Security Shamim Khan, as well as Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires Muhammad Wasif and Political Counsellor Kamran Dehingal, among other senior representatives.
