Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday introduced a special Ramadan relief package worth (approximately 71.5 million U.S. dollars) to assist underprivileged families ahead of the holy month, which begins on Sunday.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Sharif stated that the package would benefit 4 million deserving 20 billion rupees families, covering around 20 million people, with distribution completed within the first 10 days of Ramadan.
He assured that a robust mechanism had been put in place to ensure the seamless transfer of funds to the eligible families across the country. Additionally, 600 stalls are being set up nationwide to provide sugar at subsidized rates.
Sharif highlighted that inflation had significantly decreased this Ramadan compared to the previous year. Alongside the decline in commodity prices, the government has also increased financial assistance for low-income families during the holy month.
The prime minister also expressed his appreciation to international partners for their support and contributions, acknowledging their role in making the initiative successful.
