Pakistan and China have signed an agreement to facilitate the export of buffalo embryos, ova, and frozen semen to China.
The agreement was formalized during an official signing ceremony held on June 9 between Pakistan’s Ministry of National Food Security and Research and Royal Group.
Biotechnology Company Established in Pakistan
Meanwhile, Royal Group has already established Royal Cell Biotechnology Company (Pakistan) in Lahore after completing registration requirements with Pakistan’s Animal Quarantine Department.
According to company representatives, the firm has fulfilled all regulatory requirements set by Chinese authorities for livestock genetic exports.
Earlier Trial Shipments Show Progress
Previously, Pakistan conducted a trial export of 10,000 buffalo embryos to China with an estimated value of $2 million. Consequently, both sides expanded cooperation in this area.
Long-Term Export Potential
According to Dr. Qaiser Shahzad, China plans to import at least 300,000 buffalo embryos from Pakistan over the next decade.
Moreover, rising demand for buffalo milk in China has increased interest in Pakistan’s buffalo breeds, which are recognized for strong milk quality and production capacity.
Livestock Cooperation Expands
Furthermore, Chinese partners aim to combine Pakistan’s livestock genetics with advanced breeding technologies. As a result, the agreement could strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, biotechnology, and livestock development.
