The University of Gujrat (UoG) further strengthened Pak-China academic relations by signing a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese delegation led by Consul-General Zhao Shiren at the Hafiz Hayat Campus. The agreement focuses on research, student exchange, and institutional development, marking another milestone in the enduring friendship between the two countries.

The signing ceremony coincided with the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Zahoor Ul Haq, Consul-General Zhao Shiren, and former education minister Mian Imran Masood. The MoU aims to promote long-term academic cooperation and innovation through joint initiatives between Pakistani and Chinese institutions.

During the event, Zhao Shiren announced the establishment of the “Chinese Consulate Award” for the best University of Gujrat researcher, emphasising that the award will promote innovation and recognise outstanding academic contributions. He reaffirmed China’s strong commitment to supporting education and cultural exchange in Pakistan, describing the partnership as a foundation for peace and mutual progress.

Vice Chancellor Dr Zahoor Ul Haq welcomed the initiative and announced the creation of a dedicated Chinese office at UoG to facilitate future collaborations. He said the MoU symbolises a bridge of understanding that transcends borders and reflects the shared vision of learning and progress between Pakistan and China. “Education,” he noted, “remains the most powerful tool to strengthen Pak-China academic ties and build a future based on knowledge and cooperation.”

The Chinese delegation praised UoG’s efforts to advance academic excellence and promote friendly relations between the two nations. They also met with Chinese alumni and commended faculty members for their contribution to Pakistan’s development. Zhao Shiren encouraged Pakistani scholars who earned PhDs in China to share their knowledge and act as cultural ambassadors of friendship.

As the Pak-China academic partnership continues to expand, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to joint research, innovation, and mutual growth. The newly announced research award and Chinese office at UoG mark the beginning of a new chapter in higher education collaboration, reflecting a shared pursuit of progress, peace, and prosperity through learning.
